PROBLEM:
This major telecommunications company operated an in-house print and fulfillment center where they managed 22 million statement mailings per month. The company was well aware of the overhead costs included in managing their in-house operations, so they investigated outsourcing ideas from RR Donnelley Business Communication Services (BCS).
SOLUTION:
BCS, with ISO 9002 certified plants, was able to offer superior quality control standards that exceeded those currently in the customer's process. BCS' solution included the following features and benefits:

- A multi-facility approach, mailing from our Thurmont, MD; Logan, UT; and Windsor, CT BCS centers to ensure built in disaster recover security
- Selective inserting capabilities allowing the company to cross sell and up sell within their statement packages
- Online reporting functionality that we provide makes the management of materials and costs uncomplicated
- An immediate cost saving change to the physical statement form was made. Although the customer was only sending 22 million statements per month, their page counts per statement were extremely high. BCS was able to redesign their statement forms from simplex to quadplex, which reduces page counts and saves on postage.
RETURN ON INVESTMENT:
We currently print 4-5 page statements, equaling up to 110 million impressions per month. In addition to the cost savings realized through the change in the physical statement, we transformed the four operating divisions and 12 different billing systems from the company's four operating divisions into one, realizing an annual savings of 40% over their previous in-house operations.
